Why do you need a license to use the NutriSTEP® questionnaire?

  • It is necessary that all copyrighted materials are licensed for use. The NutriSTEP® questionnaire is the product of substantial research and validation. In order to protect the integrity of the instrument and monitor its use, a formal licensing system has been established. This ensures that the questionnaire is used appropriately and clarifies everyone’s rights and liabilities. It also facilitates follow-up with users for possible improvements.

How to obtain a license

A license to use NutriSTEP® questionnaire is available at Flintbox Technologies

  • What is Flintbox?
  • Flintbox is an online portal for university technologies.
  • University Technology Transfer offices across Canada all use Flintbox to disseminate information about their technologies and to make certain items available for immediate download.
  • Why is the NutriSTEP® questionnaire only available on Flintbox?
  • The distribution rights for the NutriSTEP® questionnaire have been granted to the University of Guelph through their Business Development Office. By using Flintbox, the University can make the NutriSTEP® questionnaire available at the click of a button and at the same time ensure that the integrity of the tool is protected through a license agreement.
  • What are the steps in accessing the NutriSTEP® questionnaire through Flintbox?
  1. Visit the Flintbox Technologies page
  2. Ontario residents and institutions can obtain a free electronic copy of the questionnaire by selecting "NutriSTEP® Questionnaire – Ontario Residents" in English or in French from the list at the bottom of the Flintbox page.
  3. If you are located outside of Ontario you will be charged a fee. Please select either "NutriSTEP® Questionnaire - Canada (Outside Ontario)" if you are located in Canada but not in Ontario, or "NutriSTEP® Questionnaire - International" if you are not located in Canada.
  4. Once you make your selection, you will be prompted to create a Flintbox user account. Be sure to provide your complete physical address. Your account information will be sent to the email provided upon registration.
  5. On the next page that appears, scroll to the bottom and you will find a link that reads either 'License' or 'Request License'. If you are an Ontario resident or organization, click on 'License' to view and agree to the license terms. Once you agree to the License terms and the Flintbox Terms of Use, you will be instantly approved and you will be able to download the NutriSTEP® Questionnaire.
  6. If you are not an Ontario resident, you will see 'Request License' at the bottom of the page, click on this link to submit a purchase request. Your purchase request will be reviewed within 24 hours (Monday through Friday), and you will receive an email notifying you if your request has been approved or declined.
  7. If you are approved, click on the link provided in the email and enter your Flintbox account information. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on 'License' to view and agree to the license terms.
  8. On the page that follows, review your order, tick the box to indicate your agreement to the Flintbox 'terms of use' and click on the Next button. You can download the file on the following page.
